BWH is intensely preparing for the January 2000 Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO) Triennial Survey. The PREPAIRE Team (JCAHO Prep Team) successfully completed the hospital’s second mock survey on October 2. Two JCAHO Surveyors reviewed our standards and departments during this review. The surveyors emphasized the need for all staff and employees to improve their safety practices, such as keeping hallways and fire doors clear and equipment stored in designated areas. They also recommended improving medication storage, patient restraints and seclusion, the patient assessment process and the pain management policy and practices. The PREPAIRE Team has prepared “Finishing Touches,” 3rd Edition, a guide to be delivered later this month that will provide staff with useful information about the survey process. Additional preparations will be made in the upcoming months, and participation by all employees is strongly encouraged. For more information, contact Tonya Miltier at ext. 5913.
